HILLSDALE HIGH SCHOOL
 CLASS OF 1959

LEE JENSEN

Since graduating from good old Hillsdale High, I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from San Francisco State University, with stops at CSM, Brigham Young University, UC Berkeley, San Jose State, Hayward State, University of Portland, and the University of Oregon.  I studied at the University of Copenhagen for 3 years working on my pre-doctorate. I was accepted at Columbia University for my doctorate in Comparative Education but declined to complete the program electing instead to start my career in secondary administration.

In 1967 I married Pia, who was born and raised in Denmark.  We met while I was playing professional basketball and coaching the national team in Denmark.  The first two of our 6 children were born in Copenhagen, hence the need to grow up and stop moving from university to university and actually find work.  Two years in San Leandro as a Vice Principal, 2 years in a little Northern California town of Tulelake as Principal and basketball coach, and then moving north to the Portland area for the next 18 years as Vice Principal.

Eventually I left education and spent the next 15 years with a series of IT companies working on their educational programs and development.  This was kind of a step back in time for me as I had spent one year at the Stanford Research Institute developing and writing educational curriculum.  I ended my private endeavors with Novell in Utah and spent the next 3 years at Utah Valley University as an instructor.  Then 4 years as Headmaster at a therapeutic boarding school in Utah.  Currently I am sort of retired but not really, if that makes sense.

All of our children, three and three, have graduated for college, and like their dad, from a variety of universities including: UC Berkeley; William and Mary; University of Utah; Brigham Young University; and UC Davis.  Our oldest boy, Christopher, played basketball for the College of Williams and Mary and was a member of the Danish Olympic team. The middle boy, Mark, played football for UC Berkeley as their place kicker, then on to the NFL, and currently tutors players on the fundamentals of kicking and punting with his own firm. The youngest boy, Dane, is the golfer in the family and is on scholarship with UC Davis.  The girls were mostly into dancing and drama.  Two of them, Lena and Kristy, were contestants on The Amazing Race. Shawn is the head mistress at a sorority at UC Berkeley.

Pia is a graduate from the Aarhus College of Journalism in Denmark.  She is the corporate secretary for a Danish Organization and travels yearly to Denmark for meetings and conferences. We have traveled extensively throughout the world, all of Western Europe, the Far East, South and Latin America.  We have 10 grandchildren, but only three of them are married, so more on the way some day!  Life has been good, with the normal challenges here and there. But Pia has been my rock and I wake up each day looking forward to whatever it brings.

Currently I am somewhat content to munch my way through whatever sports programs are on TV, follow the 49ers and Giants by way of the internet, or watch the obligatory talk and news programs. Not too concerned about the munching as I have never been able to put on or keep weight. Just the same tall skinny guy from high school.

It is great to see this website and I am looking forward to reading about all the doings and successes of former Knights.
