After I was literally pushed out the door at Hillsdale I spent a year at CSM and in 1961 joined our classmate Bob Darnley for a 6 month motor scooter tour of Europe. Since then I've been on the road every year poking around some part of the world. The trips since my retirement from 35 years in the labor relations biz have now gotten even longer.
During the Viet-Nam war years, I was influenced by another classmate John Freeman, to become a merchant seaman and then spent four years in Southeast Asia. I picked up a journalism degree from San Jose State and later a Masters from USC.
My big accomplishment is that I stayed married to the same lady for 40 years. We raised our family in Mill Valley and lived in the same house, which we built, for 33 years and then moved to St. Helena in the Napa Valley. I only drink the cheap stuff and not the overpriced product of the region.
Our real joy is having two great kids. Shannon is now working and living in San Francisco and getting married to a bloke she met in London where she lived for 3 years. Sebastian is in his third year of medical school after topping my lackluster academic career by picking up undergraduate and graduate degrees from Dartmouth and Stanford.
I still see old cronies from high school including Lou Richardson, Ken Lavezzo, Bill Maley, Steve Pearl and Dave Bean on a regular basis. The old stories, like wine, get better as they age.
